He went from widely respected to publicly condemned, all due to his own self-inflicted mistakes.

Recently, xiaoleibbb (ID: xiaoleibbb) came across new updates about former anti-fraud streamer Lao Chen on Weibo.

This time, he was not calling out alleged fraud; instead, he backed down.

Many readers may have the same thought as Lei, wondering in confusion: Wait a minute? Can it be that even Lao Chen the anti-fraud personality has chosen to concede?

As most people know, Lao Chen’s main account was permanently banned by Douyin earlier this year, wiping out more than 1.6 million followers overnight. The platform laid out clear reasons for the penalty: under the guise of exposing fraud and promoting anti-scam awareness, he verbally attacked others without factual evidence, stoked online public sentiment, and capitalized on controversial attention to gain traffic.

He constantly picked fights with various people yet failed to provide solid proof, relying solely on stirring up conflicts to grab eyeballs. The platform refused to tolerate such behavior.

Back then, Lao Chen remained defiant. He claimed he refused to accept the penalty and planned to sue the platform to clear his name. What became of this? The lawsuit never materialized, but his account was unlocked at the end of March.

After the lift of the ban, Lao Chen hosted one livestream with a noticeably toned-down attitude. Audiences thought he had truly learned his lesson this time.

However, he secretly went live on an alternate account to test the waters.

According to netizens’ tally, he attempted no fewer than three or four times to restart his online presence under a new alias.

The platform refused to grant him such an opportunity. Every time he started streaming, traffic was severely restricted shortly after going live. The number of viewers in his live room was abysmally low, nowhere near the tens of thousands of concurrent viewers he had at the height of his popularity.

The short videos he posted also received no algorithm recommendations. After multiple failed attempts, netizens recently noticed that Lao Chen, the former anti-fraud influencer, adopted an extremely submissive tone during livestreams, practically begging the platform for leniency. He admitted his mistakes, vowing to focus on creating legitimate content and steer clear of controversial tactics going forward.

The Lao Chen who once vowed to sue the platform and fight it to the end has now backed down completely.

xiaoleibbb (ID: xiaoleibbb) also found it confusing back then. Why endure hardship streaming on alternate accounts when he could simply broadcast on his main account normally?

While Lao Chen’s primary anti-fraud account had its ban lifted, his prior violations remained on record. Any slightly inappropriate remarks would immediately trigger traffic restrictions and credit deductions.

Secondly, the reputation of his main account IP has collapsed entirely. When netizens see this name, their first thought is no longer an anti-fraud hero, but rather “he’s chasing clout again” or “who is he calling out this time”.

It is difficult to rebuild his public image or regain decent traffic if he keeps running the account burdened with such labels.

Having ruined his main account, he hoped to start afresh on a new profile.

There is another pragmatic reason: he has to make a living. Lao Chen works full-time as an internet influencer now, and this career is his livelihood. Monetization functions on his main account are restricted, hampering advertisements and live-stream sales. He had to find alternative ways to earn money, hence his attempt to open alternate accounts to create new revenue streams.

Unfortunately, the platform refuses to accommodate such tricks. Creating accounts under fake aliases makes no difference, as traffic limits remain firmly in place.

All in all, this marks the fourth time Lao Chen has announced his withdrawal from social media only to slink back. Each time he claims he will quit online content creation, yet he cannot resist returning. At its core, he cannot bear to give up the income brought by online traffic.

Frankly speaking from xiaoleibbb (ID: xiaoleibbb), mainstream public opinion is still against him. Everyone witnessed all his past conduct.

His moves were baffling one after another: he tried to expose fake phones sold by influencer Gazi only to make a humiliating U-turn and apologize; he called out Three Squirrels yet provided no supporting evidence; he launched an online poll letting netizens vote on whether he should quit the internet, then deliberately ignored votes opposing his return. He has long lost favor with ordinary internet users.

In closing,

xiaoleibbb (ID: xiaoleibbb) believes Lao Chen once held an excellent set of cards.

His former identity as an anti-fraud police officer and nationwide viral fame are resources countless online celebrities could only dream of. If he had made good use of these advantages and focused steadily on anti-scam promotion, he would undoubtedly be a top positive-energy online influencer today.

Sadly, he yielded to the temptations of online traffic and money.

His fall from widespread admiration to universal condemnation is entirely self-inflicted.
